Accountability
by Toni Ullom

I've always said I wouldn't have a preachers job, there isn't enough money in the world to take on that much responsibility. They are responsible for what they teach and the bible says they are held at a higher accountability than those not teaching.

James3:1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.

This past week I was talking to my pastors wife, about accountability and doing what you know to do. She said something that got my attention. That anyone involved in any part of the church affairs is at a higher accountability than those who are in the congregation. I thought about that a while, and then started to wonder if I wanted that much responsibility. Is it even in me to be that responsible? I am one who doesn't like being upfront and prefers to hide out behind everyone else. Doing my part but out of sight you might say. But even being out of sight still has its responsibilities if your active in the church activities.

The above statement may sound a little extreme to some, but think about it.  You are presenting God, an example for others, what are they seeing? what reflection are you producing when all eyes are on you?

A lot can be seen through actions, attitude, mannerisms. Are you just there to be seen, do they see respect for God from your actions toward the pastor and others? Every eye is watching from the moment you enter the doors of your church till you leave. What you do is a reflection on God and your pastor, it even says a lot about your relationship with God.

Are you willing to take on the responsibility that your pastor has given you in your positions? If not then you have just decided your opinions are more important than God's word. Hebrews 13:17  Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account. Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.

Know this, A true man of God will not take advantage of his position for he has to answer to God. His actions will reflect God and God's values and morals. I am stressing this because in this day and age, man seems to forget that his position is one to be kept holy and some have in the past abused that.  How can I tell if he is a true man of God?

Mathew 7:19-21

19Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and cast into the fire.

20Therefore, you will [a]fully know them by their fruits.

21Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father Who is in heaven.
